ANNOUNCMENT: Renewing the program for 2011 was the theme for a meeting on Sunday, March 20th. We met in the Fellowship Hall of Community UCC. The goal was to enhance and expand the program to get more healthy food to the needy in our area. Everyone with an interest in helping to address this serious issue is invited to take part in Grow and Share and to offer new thinking and ideas. We really welcome new participants who are willing to roll up their sleaves or open their minds to deal with this significant social problem.
The Grow and Share program is an outreach of a number of churches and other support groups dedicated to cooperatively assisting in the serious matter of hunger and poor nutrition in our area. The basic idea was to develop a pipeline for getting wholesome, fresh fruits and vegetables to the needy via the Greater Berks Food bank. Participating churches act as collecting centers for members and non-members who agree to share some of their abundance each Sunday. On that same day the donated foods is gathered in a central location and delivered to the Food Bank early on Monday for distribution.
